Athro: Mr Owain Gwilym
Exercise: Thursday afternoon with Mr Gwilym (swimming on Wednesdays until 22/11/23)
Our theme: We have been trialling new themes over the past few years and have brought the child's voice into the planning. The theme for this period up to February half term is 'Travelling', looking at traveling back in time to the 60s. We will read the novel from the 60s 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', learn about the space race and look at the history of famous people of the decade as well as learning about notable events of the time such as the flooding of Tryweryn. Within these themes, there will be an opportunity to interweave the 6 areas of learning and experience ensuring that there are constant cross-curricular opportunities. Through this, they can therefore appreciate music and express their ideas creatively through artistic work as well.
Reading books: Your child will receive reading books every Tuesday and we ask them to return them on the Monday or Tuesday of the following week in order to be able to get new books. It would be appreciated if you could listen to your child reading and discuss the books with your child and to write any comments on Seesaw. You are welcome to put recordings of your child reading on Seesaw, too. Also, your child has access to the reading program 'Reading Eggs', 'Giglets' and Darllenco. All login details are in your child's Seesaw account.
Homework: We will occasionally set homework tasks. In most cases, there will be help on Google Classroom to accompany the task. We kindly ask you to help and encourage your child to complete the task. Every effort should be made to complete it by the date given.
Help/Enquiry: Contact via Seesaw message.
Our theme: War and Peace
‘War and Peace’ is our theme this term. After much discussion, the children have decided that they want to study the Second World War and we have already started this work. In addition to this, we will study wars in Wales and learn about significant people such as Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf and Owain Glyndwr. The children will also learn about influential peacemakers, such as Malala Yousafzai and Nelson Mandela. In addition to this, the children will learn about current events such as the Ukrainian War. By the end of the theme, we hope that the children will understand the consequences of war and appreciate the importance of peace in the world, while showing empathy towards different people and their situations.
In our Mathematics lessons, we emphasise mental numeracy work, developing and practicing the four rules, and developing these skills cross-curricularly.
The pupils will have the opportunity to keep physically and mentally healthy through Physical Education lessons, PSE sessions and Growth Mindset lessons. They will be given opportunities to appreciate music and to express themselves creatively through art and technology work.
We will reflect on Remembrance Sunday and learn about Christmas celebrations around the world.
