Welcome to Edwen's Classroom

Classroom Teacher: Miss Laura Millican

PPA Teacher: Miss Nicola Jones

Physical Education: Every Thursday afternoon with Miss Nicola Jones (swimming every Wednesday for 10 weeks)

Reading Books: Your child will receive new reading books every Tuesday and we ask them to return them every Monday or Tuesday so that they can receive new ones. We would greatly appreciate if you could listen to your child read and discuss the books with them, and to also write in the Reading Record. You’re more than welcome to record your child reading and send the clip via Seesaw. Your child also has access to Reading Eggs.

Help/Questions: Please contact the school via Seesaw.

Our theme: We have been trialling new themes over the past few years and have brought the child's voice into the planning. The theme for this period up to February half term is 'Travelling', looking at travelling back in time to the 60s. We will read the novel from the 60s 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', learn about the space race and look at the history of famous people of the decade as well as learning about notable events of the time such as the flooding of Tryweryn. Within these themes, there will be an opportunity to interweave the 6 areas of learning and experience ensuring that there are constant cross-curricular opportunities. Through this, they can therefore appreciate music and express their ideas creatively through artistic work as well.

Mathematics: In the Mathematics lessons, we will continue to emphasize on mental work, exercises of the four rules, and continue to reinforce their knowledge of multiplication tables. We will develop further to work on shape and measurement, and then develop to data interpretation and probability skills whilst using what we have learned in our cross-curricular work. By the end of the year, we will have had an opportunity to develop some algebra skills as well.

Language: We will reinforce and develop our linguistic skills in Welsh and English through various oral, reading and writing tasks. As in the Numeracy work, there will be an opportunity to use the skills learned into the cross-curricular tasks. We will also be introducing some international languages into our learning to embrace different cultures.

Health and Wellbeing: Pupils will have the opportunity to keep physically and mentally healthy through Physical Education lessons, PSE sessions and Growth Mindset lessons.
