Music

Music is the core of ysgol y Graig. All pupils enjoy singing various hymns in the morning service, and perform showstoppers in the Christmas concerts.

The school Choir, over the years have had the opportunity to sing in services, concerts towards good causes and of course compete at the Urdd Eisteddfod. They have also had the opportunity learning to sing Cerdd Dant, with this Choir and Party successful on the Urdd stage.

As part of the school's Music provision we offer the opportunity for pupils in the Juniors department to receive instrumental lessons.
Instrumental lessons currently offered:-

  • Harp
  • Woodwind
  • Brass
  • Violin / Cello
  • Piano

The opportunity to learn to play an instrument or being a member in a choir includes:-

  • brain development
  • improve their social life
  • release and reduce mental stress
  • give a feeling of achievement
  • strengthen their self-confidence
  • learn to be patient
  • improve their memory
  • increase discipline and time management skills
  • enable them to be more creative
  • have FUN!

For many years, the school Band led by Mrs Kate Gwilliam have competed at the Urdd Eisteddfod. Success came several times, and the special experience for band members to perform in one of Wales’ youth festival stage.
