A cooking competition for members of the Urdd in Years 4, 5 and 6 was held recently. There were artisan cooks in the school hall busily preparing a wrap of their choice. Many thanks to Aunty Olwen and Aunty Sue for judging the competition. It was not an easy decision!!
Congratulations to Cari, Year 6 who will be representing the school in Bodedern at the end of November. All the best to you!
The boys football team played a friendly against Ysgol Morswyn. At the end of a thrilling game the Ysgol y Graig boys emerged victorious. Congratulations lads!
A group of year 4, 5 and 6 pupils recently collaborated with Play Disrupt agencies. The agency is working with children in the area to gather ideas on how to improve a play park in Pencraig. The children enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to seeing the impact of their contribution on the play area that is local to them.
Children in Need Day was a busy and fun one! The children (and staff) came to school brightly dressed or dressed as Pudsey. As well as selling cakes, staff took part in a cake decorating competition. All the cakes were worth seeing. Congratulations to Mrs Redvers Jones on winning the competition. Thanks to the school council for organising a wonderful day. We managed to raise £320 towards the charity.
Congratulations to the children who competed in the Llangefni catchment area indoor athletics competition. We are pleased to say that the year 6 team came second, and the year 5 team came joint third. Good luck to the year 6 team in the final in January!
Thank you so much for the donation of your boxes, which will be going to the poorest children in Eastern Europe. You have made this Christmas one to remember!
Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 girls team who recently won the Urdd girls football competition for the Anglesey region. The team put in a strong performance throughout the day. Well done girls! Good luck at the national competition in Aberystwyth!.
Staff and pupils at Ysgol y Graig recently said goodbye to one of our most experienced classroom assistants, Mrs Susan Taylor. She has been an assistant at Ysgol y Graig for years and has supported many children. She will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best for the future.
The Harvest Festival services were held at Graig Fach Unit and Graig Fawr Unit with Year 2 and 6 pupils taking the lead. Staff were extremely proud of each of the children who took part in the services. This year, we decided to make a collection for the Anglesey food bank. I would like to thank everyone who contributed towards it.
Where do pumpkins come from? That's a question that Year 1 and 2 children have been asking recently. To help them with the solution staff arranged to visit Bodlas Farm in Bodedern. I would like to thank everyone there for the welcome received. The children loved seeing the fields full of pumpkins!
The Uned Graig Fach has now officially opened. This new building is home for our nursery children up to Year 2, with Year 3 to Year 6 pupils attending the Uned Graig Fawr located in the original building which opened in 2009.
On June 10th this year the doors of the Uned Graig Fach were opened to the public and it was great to see so many coming along to see the new building. The space offers a refreshing and stimulating environment, where our pupils can thrive as they learn and reach their full potential.
We wish to thank Cefnogi Môn Support for their donation we recently received.
These are some of the school council members who are ready to discuss how we should spend the money.
Asthma Pumps Appeal
Thank you very much to everyone who has supported our appeal to recycle Asthma pumps. The local Surgery was glad to receive them.
New School Year
We once again welcomed new children to the nursery ‘Nyth’ class in Mrs Edwards' care. She will be kept busy with the oldest pupils attending in the morning and the youngest children attending in the afternoon.
New Teachers
New teachers were welcomed to Graig school during this Term. Mrs Manon Jones was appointed as a year 6 teacher and Miss Laura Millican will be teaching year 4. Mrs Manon Jones was also appointed as interim head of the Year 5 and 6 department. A warm welcome to both of them.
PC Owain
PC Owain has visited the school this term. He has been talking to the children about behaving outside of the school. He’s been teaching children about how good behaviour can ensure everyone living happily together. A number of videos were also shown to demonstrate how anti-social behaviour can affect families and the whole community.
We would like to thank PC Owain for his time and for the special discussions that have taken place.
Autumn Leaves
Year 3 and 4 children's classes recently went for walks along the ‘Traed Bach’ Trail to collect leaves of all kinds whilst looking at the changes in nature during the Autumn term. It was fair to say that a few had collected a pile of leaves that had fallen! The children had great fun on displaying these leaves on their return to class and completing their work.
Thank you teachers for taking the children on their adventure!
Harvest Festival
The children have been busy creating harvest festival videos to share with the parents and the rest of the school. Year 6 pupils worked very hard work collating the efforts of each individual class and to bring the video clips together. Thanks to all the teachers for their work with the children.
Year 6 visit to the library
As part of the World Space Week celebrations, year 6 pupils were invited to the library to take part in coding activities. Four sessions were organised in total, and the children were very busy programming LEGO robots. A lot of fun was had later when the robots were raced against each other! They then were given a taste of creating animation through computer programming and coding.
We celebrated shwmae/su'mai day on October 15th by creating our drawings and doing activities in class. The day has been organised by Welsh language initiatives to help us remember that we should all start all conversations in Welsh.
